Why are the sunsets the nicest on Shabbat when it's forbidden to photograph them? It happens every week. If I walk around on a weekday with a camera, they sky is never as beautiful. Last night as Shabbat began and tonight, as Shabbat ended the sky was so totally and indescribably gorgeous...
Oy, who are we to try to compete with G-d?
And why collect pictures and other material possessions?
We have to learn to treasure what money can't buy....
Shavua Tov
Because we want the great things to last and sometimes our memories aren't enough. Any way you can get a gentile to take a picture for you? ;)
ReplyDeleteIt's not like finding a goy on Shabbat to fix the fuse.
ReplyDeleteIt must be part of Shabbat's being on a different level entirely. On rare occassions I have taken some great pictures and have a small business. If it were easy to take those miracle shots, nobody would pay for them.
I think the MOST special moments in life are meant to be captured only in our hearts and heads.
ReplyDeleteWhen my son learned to walk, I went to get him his first pair of shoes. On the way home, we stopped at a local park. As I walked down the sidewalk with my little smiley faced boy who was so happy to be walking, I kicked myself for not having my camera. Then I realized that photo or not, this was a moment that was engraved forever, and it was meant to be that way!
Enjoying your blog...
