Just because it's bottled, doesn't mean it's better than your tap water. Did you know that some of the bottled water is tap water? Of course some tap water is better than others.
But even worse; some of the most attractive bottles are really filled with "purified water." There are two basic problems there:
- What's the source? Was it "waste" water?
- What was taken out in the process of purification?
Read the labels! I noticed that most of the New York restaurants sell purified water. The free tap water is better.
A few years ago we spent a lot of money on a water purification filter system, since a good friend was selling it. It was a waste. We should have just hired him for something we really needed, and he would have made more money than he got from them.
Remember that purified water is the opposite of mineral water! The body needs minerals.
I keep a couple of cases in case of an emergency (no water) or for tourists afraid to drink tap water. Other than that I've resisted. Also, the small amount of chlorine in tap water prevents infections from breeding when you are outside.
ReplyDeleteUnfortunately I live in a very old section of Tel Aviv and there's clearly some haluda / rust in the water.. If it runs it clears up, but for me it'll have to be Ein Gedi, which is at least spring water.
ReplyDeletedepending where you are located in New York, there may be an issue of bugs in the water, from what I've heard. Some sort of basic filter is necessary (on the tap end) to get rid of the little buggies.
ReplyDeletemii, We also keep some mineral water at home. Nice treat.
ReplyDeletesaus, there are vast differences in water quality in Israel, and some places, especially in old buildings, the water isn't for drinking.
t', if they're too small to see...
