That Bridge, Another Perspective

Jerusalem's Calatrava String Bridge soars rather incongruously over the junction between the Central Bus Station and the Kiryat Moshe neighborhood. From many vantage points, it looks rather ridiculous, impressively absurd.

There are rumors that there are already signs of structural damage even before its vehicle lanes are permitted traffic.

But the other day when I had to meet people in Kiryat Moshe, it was suggested that the fastest way to get there from Center 1, the shopping mall near the bus station, would be to walk on the bridge. So, that's what I did.

  1. It must be horrible for the people living in that building...

    Shabbat Shalom!

  2. Building was/is a nightmare especially in Kiryat Moshe, but now pedestrians are enjoying the easy walk to the bus station. As a pedestrian bridge it's lovely, I must admit. For car drivers, it's very difficult.

I haven't visited Israel since the mid-1980's, so I certainly haven't seen the brige in person, but I have seen photos of it posted on blog sites. It looks vulgar; quite frankly, I think the architect/designer intended it as a frank insult to the Aybischter, and from the midst of J'lem no less. To hear that it shows signs of structural weakness (to match the designer's mental weakness) ia of no surprise to me. Perhaps HaShem has a reply to the erection of that structure in his holy city.

  4. Schvach, it's an Olmert monument, which says a lot. consider it an outrageously expensive and ostentatious pedestrian bridge.
