Here's Where I'm Off To Today

That's the Neve Yaakov swimming pool.  The 7:30-10am time slot is women only on Mondays and Wednesdays and until 9:30 on Friday.  There are other hours, but not such a long time slot.  If I'm not mistaken men have hours on alternate days and different hours.  The rest is mixed or rented out to schools and other groups.

In Israel, swimming lessons are required for a few weeks in the 4th or 5th grade, so when I leave at 10, it's quite common to see kids pile in.  On the day I took the picture, the pool was empty after we swan.

It's a nice pool, and there are also a sauna and steam-room to enjoy, and G-d willing, I do plan on enjoying them.

  1. It looks like a lot of time, and that is a good amount of time alloted for women only.

Enjoy your time in the pool and sauna!

  2. Thanks, it was wonderful. Yes, it's a generous chunk of time, but it's good for the community center, since so many women come from all over.

I believe that this used to be true many years ago - i.e. at least 15-20 years ago and maybe even more.

But to the best of my knowledge, this is unfortunately no longer true. In fact, I don't know of any school where the kids get swimming lessons.

  4. Oh, I'm shocked! My youngest, born in 1983, was taught in school. It never occurred to me that they had stopped it.

My older son is a certified swimming teacher and I'm sure that he did his student teaching in some school program just a few years ago.

  5. Shalom!
I've got kids in grades 1,3,7 and 8. I've never even heard of a swimming requirement. I pay for the kids to have lessons at the pool in Elon Moreh.
That school program is probably either optional or not representative of most schools. Even with government regulations, school programs vary greatly in some areas.

  6. I guess my kids are lucky to have learned in school programs.
