TU B'Shvat, Not This Year

I decided not to go to the big TU B'Shvat seder.  Too tired and wanted to avoid all the fruit, wine and calories.  I hope to avoid all that stuff.  I love fruit.

What have you done to celebrate?

  1. I bought some figs. That should provide some celebration for my husband and me.

For my son, who is actually having a Tu B'Shvat party in school, I bought some blueberries. I think they are from Argentina.

  2. Shalom!
I went to Elon Moreh's annual Tu B'Shvat birthday party tonight and ate cake that I shouldn't have. Gershon Mesika, Rosh Moetzah and resident of Elon Moreh mentioned that people who eat fruit not from Israel on Tu B'Shvat are rendering what is important, insignificant and vice versa. We will, b"h, have a real seder at home on Tu B'Shvat, with fruits of the Land. One has to eat only a little bite of each fruit in order to participate in the seder. As with the Passover Seder, the text is the important part.
I must remember to send you my Seven Species חידון . How would you translate that? Tricky questions?

  3. Leora, I think that the whole point is supposed to be the traditional fruits and grains of the Land of Israel. But even here in Israel people eat all sorts of exotic ones from all over the world. instead.

Hadassa, Tues. night is a tough one for me to get out, so I didn't go to anything. I should treat myself to some fruit from here. I had pecans from my cousin's tree. That's Israeli.
