Jerusalem, Like a Big Street Carnival

One never knows what will be on the streets of downtown Jerusalem.

I wonder if the Jerusalem municipal planners had a clue as to the special world that they had made when closing the city center Ben-Yehuda Street to traffic about forty years ago. It had seemed then to be an outrageously daring idea, because the street was the center of so much vehicular traffic.

There were traffic lights and a taxi stand and was always busy and crowded.

Now it's impossible to imagine it any way other than as a pedestrian mall.
