Well, it is MUCH cheaper, but several years ago I informed DH that health was more important. I did buy one bottle of it this year- to be used soley for greasing baking tins and the like.....
Actually, coconut oil is the healthiest oil of all to use, because even at high temperatures olive oil becomes rancid and thus toxic. Coconut oil doesn't change consistency at high temperature (ask a chemist for more info).
Problems with coconut oil: 1) price 2) your cookies taste like coconuts 3) never heard of it having a kosher l'pesach marking.
I rarely use it because of 2), though a friend made eggs with it, and I couldn't taste the coconut.
We use olive oil exclusively on Pesach (some butter with dairy).
thanks, leora, we also use olive oil and some butter. I do buy the non-kitniyot margarine, but we never get close to finishing it. I use it for making matzah brei, since it's better for that sort of frying than olive oil. Yes, it does have palm oil.

ReplyDeleteI buy one block of no kitniyot margarine, which we never finish. It's just for frying the matzah brei.
