I Goofed It As a Mother
When my kids were little, I always kept them out of the kitchen, not letting them do much, certainly not washing dishes, so they wouldn't make a mess. Then later, when I wanted their help, I didn't get it.My daughter lets the kids help, even if the help needs help.

Good for your daughter! My father-in-law was good at fidgeting with inside of a car, but he never included his sons in this.
I let my boys help in the kitchen. They can clear the dishwasher, and they bake desserts, too. One day they will be able to continue this tradition for their families (and give their wives a break).
I have to remind myself not to shoo my kids out of the kitchen. They learn so much about science, math, and Mom. All important lessons.
Leora, my sons learned how to fix things from guys who used to hang out here, like foreign students, olim chadashim, etc. Repairs are not my husband's specialty. They learned how to cook helping in yeshiva, and then I learned to give them a free hand. They can do everything, even bake better than me.
nosher, nobody likes to wash the dishes. I never let them when it was fun to flood the kitchen.
