As I wrote the other day, אחרי הגים after the Holidays is when we have no more excuses. It's time to do all sorts of things we've been postponing.
What are your plans?
Any doctors appointments or similar things you should have done but put them off?
Anyone you want to see, or should see but haven't made the time?
Is there anything you need to buy or order?
Is there something you need to do for your home?
When was the last time you went through things to see what can be thrown out? or given away? or fixed? Go through your clothes, books...
And what about that diet?
Now should be the time to start a walking/swimming/fitness routine, find exercise partners.
Sign up for an interesting or challenging class.
Make more time for your kids, grandkids, other family members and friends.
Make time for yourself.
And what about your bucket list? Do something you've always wanted to do.
Nobody lives forever.

Baking Matzah by Hand
Last night, OK with daylight savings time it was more like late afternoon, while taking a walk around the neighborhood, I noticed some activity going on. Apparently this van brought all the supplies and equipment needed to bake matzah.
So I got a bit closer and took a couple of pictures. Since matzah-baking is strictly timed, I didn't want to disturb anyone. That's why I didn't get too close.
You can see that they brought gas canisters, an oven and everything else one would need to produce handmade matzah.
Just a few days ago, I had admitted to someone that I had never seen nor participated in matzah-baking.
Should I add matzah-baking to my "Bucket List?"

Oy, Nobody's Immune
I had great plans for tonight. It was a chance to mark off yet another dream from my Bucket List. I was going to audition to be in a play. I don't think I had been in a play since some Hebrew School Purim play in the Oakland Jewish Center, Bayside, NY, when I was about eleven. I had a small role which included a solo sung to Queen Esther, which had words something like:

And I was hoping to be in it. OK, just a small role, but now it doesn't look like a good idea. So, I canceled my audition slot.
Why? You're probably wondering. The truth is that my hip has been giving me trouble, so I'm afraid to commit and wary about having to dance to choreography not suited to my body. Too much standing isn't good for me either. In addition, the traveling isn't easy, but I would have made that work. Maybe they'll let me get involved later on, in a way that would allow me to get on stage for the finale, all costumed and sing with everyone... Gd willing.
"Oh, Ester lovely queenThe Women’s Performance Community of Jerusalem will be putting on a play in a few months, “HIDDEN – The Secret Jews of Spain."
Go pray before your king
and plead our Jewish cause
... cruel Haman's Laws"

And I was hoping to be in it. OK, just a small role, but now it doesn't look like a good idea. So, I canceled my audition slot.

Moi, A Stand-Up Comedienne? Updated with link to performance
Last night I finally got my chance. In a sense it's like being able to cross something off my "Bucket List." I've always loved to perform, but outside of the classroom, as a teacher, and of course my dancing and talking to groups about Shiloh etc, I don't think I've ever been given a microphone to just be "me."
A couple of months ago, I noticed that the The Women's Performance Community of Jerusalem was looking for women to tell their aliyah stories to celebrate Yom Aliyah, Aliyah Day. So, I bit the bullet and sent in a wacky "audition" recorded as I walked up the hill one night, close to deadline, and I was accepted.
I thought I could just do my usual improv, no real planning, and then they started asking me how long it would take so they could set up the scheduling. Eeks! That brought me back down to earth. So I wrote something up and timed it. It was obvious to me that the "tone and style" would be very much like my Baile Rochel pieces and delivered stand-up. And the end would be a participatory "how to dance while standing in shul."
Of all the friends and family I invited, only one friend could attend, and she told me that if I signalled after each joke she'd be sure to laugh. The totally amazing thing was that from my very first joke, original of course, people began laughing, so I never had to signal her. And most of the women got up for the dancing. And lots of women came up to me afterwards to tell me what a great time they had.
Thanks to the Israel Center for sponsoring the group and super special thanks to the The Women's Performance Community of Jerusalem, Sharon Dobuler Katz, Shifra A-C Penkower, Avital Macales and Bati Katz. Here are some photos sent to me by Sharon Dobuler Katz. Click here and you should be able to see and hear me.

Jerusalem Fun! Lots of Photos
I just spent a couple of days in Jerusalem. Here are some pictures, and explanations are in the captions.
It's nice to get away for a bit. At my age, I have to live the "bucket list" while I can.
