Customize Your Google/Chrome Homepage

For those of you who use Google/Chrome as your homepage, you probably have noticed that Google changes the picture/background on it to suit your local holidays.

Just above you can see the graphics they chose for yesterday for computers, tablets, whatevers they "sensed" to be in Israel. There's an Israeli Flag, because yesterday was Israel's Independence Day, Yom Haatzmaut.

If you look on the lower right hand corner, you'll see a very convenient and helpful tool.

Click it, and you'll discover a host of possibilities to customize your homepage.

Above is from today's homepage, and Google has changed the graphics.

Don't be afraid to click the options/choices.

  • They give you a choice of their own "Chrome backgrounds"
  • You can upload any of your own images.

After playing around with it, experimenting, you can always click the "Restore default shortcuts."

I hope this simple "how to" post helps you. Don't be afraid of your computer. The neighbor who first taught me how to use one said one word to me in the early 1980's:
"Play."
When I asked him what would happen if I "broke" anything, he replied that he's fix it. Then programming was much more complicated, and very few programs available did very little. There wasn't even an "undo" button. I had to call him only once. Now I can teach people, even younger than me, how to use their computers, tablets, smartphones etc.

Instructions are in the "menus" that pop up when you click. If you have anything to say about this, please ask in the comments, thanks.

I Want Your Opinion-- Should I Change The Name of this Blog?

For the longest time I've been thinking that this blog has the wrong name. I didn't quite understand the importance of a name for a blog when I started it. Remember that this blog and Shiloh Musings are among the oldest Jewish blogs still getting daily posts in the world. Actually, besides my husband's, I don't know of any other blogs as veteran as mine.

Since I didn't have a very clear idea of what I'd be posting here other than the fact that it wouldn't be political, I thought of "Meanderings" as a name but blogger said that the name had already be snagged. I then tried "meander," but if I remember correctly, that was also taken. So I just stuck the hyphen between the two syllables and invented "me-ander." It says nothing, therefore it doesn't draw any readers on google search. There was a time when the search engines were less sophisticated, and I'd find that people got to my blog by searching for "anderwear," sic.

I almost changed it a few years ago to something like:
  • thanks
  • grateful
  • miscellaneous
I'm just wondering. What do you think? Do you have an idea for a name that would bring me more readers?

Honestly, I'd really appreciate your opinion, so please don't be shy about voicing it in the comments and even suggesting a name that would draw readers. Thanks!!!

Threats from Google! Help!!!

Even though I've already deleted hundred of emails and dozens of photos, the messages from google, gmail, google + etc have been that I'm 2% short of maximum in terms of free storage. Is this symbolic of my pre-Passover cleaning, ridding the house of the forbidden Chametz?

Does it mean that I should start blogging on a different free service?

When I have time, I guess that I should try to delete some of my YouTubes, films. What do you think?

Does anyone have any simple suggestions? And to make things clear, I do not want to spend money. It's bad enough that I don't get paid for my writing. I certainly don't want to pay to write publicly.

Right now I'm sticking to photos already in the system.

Just Switched to Google Chrome, B"H, What an Improvement!!

For the past week or more, I've been suffering from slowdowns and delays using this computer.  I finally realized that the other computer in the house is fine, so it can't be our internet connection.  And what is was the big difference?  The other one has been using Google chrome, while this one was still with windows explorer.

So, I did the obvious intelligent thing.  I installed Google chrome.  I quickly sent out an SOS to Facebook and a neighbor speedily replied with the link.

And now, B"H, my computer is working like a teenager on speed, totally hyper.  I feel like I've been reborn. And it's free, of course.

Searching With Other Searches

Is it still "googling" when you use Ask? Google isn't the only search engine in town, you know.

One of my visitor counters provides a graphic to show all the search engines. Do you google on Google, or somewhere else?
I'm the contrary type. I hate to think that I'm doing what everyone else is doing, so I started asking instead of googling.
