My Photography, Some Recent 52Frames Photos

I never studied photography, nor art, nor composition, though I've been drawn to it. In recent years I've been a member of 52frames, which began as a small group of people, photographers, amateur and professional or hopefuls on Facebook. The committee decides on a weekly "challenge" plus its "extra c," which isn't required. 

When I first heard about 52frames it was hard to be accepted. Our "portfolios" had to be approved, and there were limited chances during the year for newcomers. I was terrified that I'd be rejected; also most members photographed with impressive cameras, not phones. In the beginning I had used an inexpensive camera, because affordable phones had rather primitive cameras. As phone cameras got better and it became more difficult for me to carry a camera, I retired the camera and now only photograph with my phone.

In the early years, the weekly album was posted on Facebook, and now there's a site 52Frames. 

Since I being accepted in 52frames I never missed a week. You can see that in the photo below.

This week's theme/challenge on 52Frames was What is it??

By chance I spotted something very strange. I photographed it from a few angles, in its real color and also sepia. I chose the sepia and cropped it a bit.

New Photo, Yes I Listen to My Readers

On my Arutz 7 blog posts, you'll see a new photo of me. OK, it's not all that new as my facebook friends know, but it is new for Arutz 7.

Last week I got a letter from a reader/fan that he had been avoiding my posts, because the photo I had been using didn't look the reader in the eye. But when he, actually started to read what I wrote, he realized that he does enjoy my writings. And he decided to write to me to tell me. I took what he wrote to heart and looked fr a different one, deciding in the end on the facebook one.

I had used that different one, because I thought I looked good in it. Actually the previous photo made me more more like my mother who was a great beauty. And my face looked much thinner.  As you can see.

So I  switched photos. I will also have to do it for my Jerusalem Post blog, because in the picture there I am also looking away. You should all know that I do listen; I do read what you send me. And I appreciate it.

So please don't be shy if you have something like this to tell me, thanks.

PS Again three out of six of the favorite blog posts are mine on Arutz 7!

"A Kiss From Heaven"

I'm not sure how often I say this about the 52Frames themes/challenges, but this week's was a toughy for me. "Kiss." I probably would have taken a photo of a chocolate "kiss" if I had been able to find one. But I didn't.

I tried all sorts of ideas, and they all came out horrendously. I'm not even going to show you the first batch/attempts. Finally I cleaned the window on the door to the merpeset/balcony, freshened my lipstick and kissed the glass. And then I took all sorts of pictures, cropping, editing etc.

And now, here's the one I chose. Did I make a good decision or not? Please tell me in the comments.

Abandoned, 52Frames

This week's theme/challenge in the photography group I'm in, 52Frames, was "Abandoned." I took a few photos and chose this bench, from which I then took out the color, making it black and white.

"Benched Bench"
I don't live in Jerusalem and have no idea of how this uncomfortable crooked bench ended up in my neighborhood. It looks pitiful and is certainly abandoned. I've never seen anyone sit in it either. It has obviously been rejected, sent off the field, benched, the Benched Bench.

Greetings From Shiloh #2, 52Frames

This is my second "Greetings From..." photo for 52Frames, the international photography group I've been a member of for over a year. It seems that there are weekly themes/challenges that repeat from year to year along with different ones. I've already done two self-portraits and now a second Greetings From... The big problem for me is making sure that I photograph a visual aspect of Shiloh that is very different from last year's.

SHILOH, Eyes on The FutureEven in Biblical Times, Shiloh schools must have been great or the Biblical Hannah wouldn't have sent her much prayed for son, Samuel, here. Our modern school started with only 18 students in three classes September 1, 1981. Now the school has expanded enormously, and I get great joy seeing the children learning and playing. They are our future!

This is the one I really wanted to submit, shot and cropped it carefully, but I just couldn't send it because of the fence. (The Shiloh שילה is from the Shiloh Pizza place's big sign.

I liked this one, but I think the ball in the one I chose makes that one more interesting.

While wandering around my neighborhood I discovered this gorgeous spot, but I didn't choose the, since there's nothing very particularly Shiloh about it. It could be almost any place in Israel.

I THINK that I shall never see 
A silhouette lovely as a tree.

For the very first time ever, I've produced a photo that doesn't look like a photo. What do you think?

It's for 52Frames Silhouette. I think it looks more like a simple woodcut or etching, rather than a photo, but I'm not an expert in art media. I used the free IrfanView program to turn the photo, taken on a day when the sky was a pale grey, into this sepia. It gave the photo much more warmth and interest. Of course, I also cropped it.

I was hoping to photograph trees with a glorious sunrise or sunset, but the weather didn't cooperate, and I suffer terribly from the cold. I also tried some indoor photography which came out so badly, that I'm not even going to show you the photos.

I'll just show you the one I almost used, but after asking a few people in the group, most recommended the one I did choose.

  52Frames is pushing me into a level of photography I never would have entered.

Trees, Wow, the 52 Frames Challenge/Theme

I took a lot of pictures of trees this past week for 52 Frames. It was easy to find trees but hard to pick a striking picture. You can see some of them on my facebook album from this month.
