One of The Bonuses of Walking

Like most walkers, I walk to keep fit, lose weight etc. And besides having to periodically buy comfortable walking shoes, which should be worn even if you don't walk much, it's free. Yes, unlike most other sports, fitness methods, classes, pool memberships etc, walking doesn't require an expense.

OK, maybe you'll need a sunhat and sunscreen, but many sedentary people have those for lying the sun and floating on rafts, cruising etc.

So, besides the frugality of walking, there's an added bonus, views, sunsets, sunrises etc. Last night I scheduled a walk with a friend, so I'd see the golden sunset. All it cost was a few calories, and I wanted to lose/spend those anyhow.

Super Gevaldik Sunset

As we all know, there are sunsets, and there are sunsets. Many are forgettable, just signs that daylight is over, and we'll have to wait until the following morning for the sun to rise. There are even days when dark clouds and rain, hide sunsets, sunrises and even the sun itself.

Or on rare days we're treated to the most Gevaldik and amazing sunrises and/or sunsets. Today's sunrise was one of those beauties.

Honestly, I was taken by surprise. On my way home, sitting quietly in the bus in my favorite front seat, as we were traveling from North to South in Shvut Rachel, lazily I looked westward out of the window trying to see my house. And then suddenly WOW, Super Wow, the most  Gevaldik sunset, bright round orange sun was staring right back at me.

This photo is totally "untouched." I didn't edit it at all.

Yesterday we found ourselves in Jerusalem walking towards the setting sun, and the sky was an amazing gold.

Shiloh, Gorgeous Sunsets!

Many years ago, one of my kids took a tour of the Grand Canyon. One of the events/sites on the tour was to watch the sunset. Apparently people come from all over the world just to see the sun set there. She sat, watched and looked with all the others, tourists from all over. Finally, she said:

"The sunsets in Shiloh are more beautiful!"

Last week as I was going into the Shiloh Mishkan/Tabernacle Synagogue, just as the sun was setting, I took these photos.

See, I'm not exaggerating! We do have the most amazingly gorgeous sunsets!!

Magic- Gold!

The weather and sky cooperated this year when I needed to photograph Magic Hour or the Golden Hour for 52Frames, which is really possible twice during the day, dawn and dusk.

Here's the photo I chose. Following are some others I really liked.

I managed to be out just as the sun set and the sky turned a warm gold. That doesn't happen everyday. We have some of the most gorgeous sunsets here in Shiloh.

These would have given me the Extra Credit since it's sunrise, but I thought the sunset was a better photo. Was I wong?

Generally I think that the sky gets prettier in the winter, but I did take some absolutely gorgeous sky shots recently of sunsets.

Subtle Sunset

There was a very mellow look to the sunset the other day when I was walking up the hill after going to Kever Rachel, Rachel's Tomb.




The sunsets in Shiloh, especially in the summer, are usually very dramatic, like the winter's sunrises. But that day it was different, hot and tired like we all were.

Saved by the Bell!

I've had this hankering for popcorn, the real kind, but I've been trying to put it off. There are better things to eat than popcorn, like nothing. Yes, there are worse things, too.

Then, just as I was washing the dishes, trying to postpone temptation, the phone rang. My walking buddy:

"How about walking down to the industrial zone? I have to pay my bill at the green grocers there."
"Perfect. Let me just finish the dishes, say "t'hilim and mincha," Psalms and afternoon prayers, and then I'll be ready."

So, a half hour later we were off.

There's nothing like that clean look after the first rains, before the sun goes down. Everything looks so clean.

A Drop of Winter

In Israel, winter means rain. At least we hope and pray that there will be rain, since it doesn't rain in the summer, more than half the year.

We had a few drops of rain. Enough for me to have to hang the wash in the living room.

Another sign of winter is a more gorgeous sky during sunrises and sunsets.

Today, davka, the sky is summer blue, but the weather report is for "light rain." Just let me dry my clothes first.

Following the Sunset

When the weather is hot, and the sun is strong, I don't leave the house unless I have to.

Today, after the pool, I didn't go out, not at all. But then I was tempted by the cool breeze coming in. So as the sun was setting, I set out.

At first I wasn't sure which way to walk. I usually turn left and walk that way around the neighborhood. But somehow, I glanced to my right and....

...followed the sunset.

Waiting, Jersalem as the sun goes down

The other day I had to wait for a ride to go to a wedding, no, not this wedding. We went to two weddings this week. It's busy season! And in the next three weeks, a wedding a week, at least. Baruch Hashem!

I was waiting at what's known as the "city's exit," just past the Central Bus Station. As usual I was early, so as I sat waiting, I just had to take some pictures.

That's how I felt last night.




We were at this exquisite wedding on the coast, and I had never seen the invitation. Everyone, OK, just about everyone was in white, and I wore red, bright red.

Not only was the view out of this world, but even the OO's, WC's, ok, the public toilets were fancier than anything I had ever seen before.

Nothing discreet about it.

Because the family wanted the wedding on Rosh Chodesh, the beginning of the Jewish Month, the ceremony had to start before the sun went down, which meant that I was sure glad to have my camera with me!

Fighting the Heat

I'm not handling the heat all that well this summer. Yesterday, I didn't have all that much to do, besides starting the Shabbat cooking.

I went to the pool early in the morning. No, you don't get to see pictures of that.

And then I hid out with the two fans going.

And as the sun set, I went out for a walk, armed with my trusty camera, of course.

Call it "corny"

But I'm sure you agree...

Nothing beats Sunset in Shiloh pictures. They document that HaShem b"Shamayim, The Lord Above, is really the best artist.


I took these as I was coming home. The first picture, with the flat-roofed building, was taken from the Shiloh-Shvut Rachel Junction. And the second picture was taken when I got off another ride, a few minutes walk from my house. When the sky looks like that, I don't mind walking the last part of the way home.
