It's a Very Good Time to Pray Together, Rosh Chodesh Kislev

Rosh Chodesh Kislev is just a few days away.

Rosh Chodesh Cheshvan was a two day Rosh Chodesh, the first on the 30th of Tishrei and the second on the first of Marcheshvan, so because of the ongoing war, a defensive war against Gazan Hamas terror, we women prayed together at Tel Shiloh, Ancient Shiloh, Shiloh Hakeduma on both days. A record number of women came to pray together. 

This year's Rosh Chodesh Kislev 5784 is just one day, Tuesday November 14, 2023 at 8:30am.

Full activities at Shiloh Hakeduma, Ancient Shiloh may not be on because of the war, but we can still pray togther. 

Shiloh is the Biblical location for Women's Prayers, which is why I started inviting women to join me on Rosh Chodesh many years ago.

Gd willing may we speedily celebrate a true victory over our vicious enemies!

Next Week Rosh Chodesh Shevat!

It's hard to believe, but our winter is almost over here in Israel. Even though there has been a custom for decades to use the Jewish Month of Shevat, and more popular the middle of Shevat, TU B'Shevat as a national tree planting day, according to experts, it's a couple of months late. Most of the heavy rains and cold are usually before TU B'Shevat. That means that if you plant trees on TU B'Shevat, you must make sure to water them well for the first few months and into the dry Israeli summer.

Thank Gd, so far at least, we've had a nice rainy winter here in the HolyLand, and soon we should be seeing lots of beautiful wild flowers decorating empty lots and peeking through rocky areas. Gd willing, since this year has two months of Adar, so that our shorter lunar calendar will be adjusted and the Jewish Holidays will fall in the correct seasons, there should be another three months of rain.

 

It's such a blessing to live in Israel, the Land of Israel and especially in Shiloh. For well over a decades I've been going to nearby, just a mile or kilometer and a half, walk to Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh on Rosh Chodesh, the beginning of the Jewish Month, to pray with other women.

Honestly, I do not like praying at graves, no matter what holy person may be buried there. I feel much more attached to Ancient Shiloh, where during Biblical Times Jewish people came to pray. The ancient Tabernacle Mishkan, stood/rested there for close to four hundred 400 years. It predated Jerusalem and the Holy Temple.

Meet Me at Tel Shiloh, Rosh Chodesh Tevet Women's Prayers

It's already day two of Chanukah. That means we must make plans for Rosh Chodesh.

The first day of Tevet will be this coming Sunday! Gd willing we'll have an inspiring Tfilat Nashim, Women's Rosh Chodesh Prayer session at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh, the location of Chana's Prayer for a son to lead the Jewish People out of the anarchy of the Judges, Shoftim.

Chodesh Tov! Monday Dovening at Tel Shiloh

Just a quick reminder that tomorrow, Monday the 1st of Iyyar and the 16th of April, 2018, we'll be having our traditional Women's Rosh Chodesh Prayers at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh at 8:30am.

We sing Hallel out loud together, and the rest of the Rosh Chodesh morning prayers are done individually/silently.

While walking from the entrance of the Biblical/Ancient Shiloh archaeology site, we get to see many of the latest discoveries. Tel Shiloh is a very active and exciting archaeological site. More and more has been discovered that reaffirms and clarifies the Biblical narrative. Unlike the simplistic interpretations that Shiloh was abandoned after the death of Eli the High Priest, the latest discoveries show that Shiloh remained a very busy and important location during Biblical times and afterwards.

Rosh Chodesh is the beginning of the Jewish Month, and it is traditionally known as a Women's Holiday, which is an especially good reason to join us.

If you want you can sign up for the regular tour program at Tel Shiloh, either while already there, or write to visit@telshilo.org.il. It's open to visitors six days a week.

During Jewish Holiday times, Chanukah and the Intermediate Days (Hol Hamoed) of Succot and Passover there are special activities for all ages.

For those who understand spoken Hebrew I highly recommend Kenes Shiloh, held every summer, when there are tours and lectures throughout the day and evening highlighting the latest archaeological discoveries.

Tel Shiloh is such a wonderful place to pray.

• There are no crowds. 
• The holiness is all around, so there's no pushing and shoving to touch a wall or tomb. 
• Tel Shiloh is a place of life, not death nor destruction. 
• Looking around we see the return of the Jewish People to our Historic Homeland, so there's a feeling of renewal and blessings from Gd. 

And since we have "women's prayer" together without men, there's no chazan. We each pray directly to Gd. Our custom is to sing the Hallel Prayer out loud together.

Shiloh Hakeduma is open all weekdays, so especially if you can't make it to the Rosh Chodesh Prayers, I suggest paying a visit. Call 02-994-4019.
