Tel Shiloh can be reached by public transportation besides by car. Take a look at the map, and you'll see that Shiloh is in the center of the country.

Rosh Chodesh Iyyar is Sooner Than You Think...

Pesach is almost over, so that means that Rosh Chodesh Iyyar is just over a week away. Ladies, please get ready for Rosh Chodesh Prayers at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh.

Gd willing we'll also be celebrating a true VICTORY and the SURRENDER OF OUR ENEMIES. If Gd forbid we're still at war, we'll still be able to enter Ancient Shiloh, even if we can't walk all the way to the location of the Mishkan Tabernacle.

It's good to pray together, and Ancient Shiloh is a traditional location for Women's Prayers. In the Tanach Bible, we read of Chana Hannah praying for a son, whom she promised to Gd she'd give to Him to serve the Jewish People. Afterwards her son Shmuel Samuel was born, and he unified the nation under the first two kings, Shaul Saul and David.

Like in ancient days we go to the site of the holy Mishkan השכן Tabernacle, where Chana prayed. Yes in Tel Shiloh Hakeduma. I've been inviting women to join me for Rosh Chodesh Prayers for well over twenty years.

Women's Rosh Chodesh Elul Prayers at Ancient Shiloh

For those who have learned some Bible, the most well-known prayer by a woman was when Chana/Hannah prayed in Shiloh. I'm a longtime resident of Shiloh-- more than forty years-- and well over twenty years ago, I started inviting women to join me on Rosh Chodesh to pray Hallel and Musaf together. 

Ancient Tel Shiloh is the exact location mentioned many times in the Tanach/Bible, where the Mishkan/Tabernacle rested for close to four hundred 400 years. שילה הקדומה Shiloh Hakeduma, Ancient Shiloh is a well developed, attractive archeology site with a gift shop and snack bar. For decades there have been Women's Prayers, except for Shabbat, on Rosh Chodesh when we sing/pray Hallel together out loud at the site of the ancient Biblical Mishkan, Tabernacle, where Hannah prayed successfully for a son.

Rosh Chodesh Shvat Women's Prayers at Tel Shiloh

 

It's time to make plans to join us for Rosh Chodesh Shvat Women's Prayers at Tel Shiloh. 

We had an amazing experience on Rosh Chodesh Tevet. As you should know, it's the middle of the winter, so rain is expected and needed. Rosh Chodesh morning it was raining and raining very heavily. I contacted people who work at Shiloh Hakeduma to ask if we could pray in a building if the rain continues when we're scheduled to pray. Thank Gd, I was told that we'd be able to use a building.

Gd had other plans. The rain lessened and then stopped just as the women arrived. In all honesty, considering the distance to our usual spot, where it's believed that the Mishkan, Tabernacle had stood, I thought that it would be a good idea to pray closer to the entrance, near the building. But the other women went off and didn't hear my shouts.

The sun was shining... That does happen on a rainy day.

We got to our usual place and began to sing/pray Hallel together, and by the time we finished the rain had resumed. We huddled under the protected areas together and finished Musaf, then listened to a Bat Mitzvah girl sing "Tefilat Chanah." By the time she finished, the rain had stopped, so we were able to walk back to the visitor center of Ancient Shiloh.

Rosh Chodesh Adar Soon-- No Joke!

It's said that the month of Adar increases joy. One can look at it as the tail end of winter, and we're very ready for the warmth of spring and tapering off of rain. There's also the fact that the Purim holiday is in the middle of Adar, and it celebrates Gd's love for the Jewish People, His miracles against all odds, even in the Diaspora.

Rosh Chodesh Adar 5783 (2023) is actually two days, the 30th of Shevat and the 1st of Adar. Our Women's Rosh Chodesh Prayers at Tel Shiloh will, Gd willing, be Tuesday February 21, 2023, 8:30am.

Perfect Visit to Tel Shiloh

 Today my husband and I took visitors to Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh. I was happy to see lots of tourists there, Israelis, Jewish. There was a time when most of the tourists were Christian visitors from abroad. Now after close to a year living under the threat of COVID19 aka Coronavirus, foreign tourists don't come to Israel. Nobody wants to waste two weeks of a vacation in quarantine. Besides that, those who administer Shiloh Hakeduma have been working hard to bring more Israelis to see our local Biblical archeological site. From the buses and cars in the parking lot, it's clear that they are succeeding.

Today's Shiloh and the Biblical Shiloh are one and the same. It's where the Mishkan, Tabernacle -the forerunner of the Holy Temple- stood for close to four hundred years. Shiloh is where Chana prayed for a son and then was the location she took her son, Samuel to for his education. Shiloh Hakeduma is a wonderful place to spend the day.

Gd Willing, Rosh Chodesh Sivan in Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh

It has been a long time since we've been able to pray together in person in the Holy Site, where the Mishkan, Tabernacle "rested" for close to four hundred years, Ancient Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh. Since corona aka COVID-19 has changed and endangered our lives, we've zoomed Rosh Chodesh prayers together from our homes. Now, Gd willing, unless the dreaded "second wave" rises like a surfer's dream, we'll be back together, social distancing of course, for our Women's Rosh Chodesh Prayers. We sing Hallel out-loud together and the rest of the prayers silently, individually.

Women, young and old, from Gush Shiloh-Eli, plus guests gathered to pray together during Chanukah on Rosh Chodesh Tevet. We sing Hallel together and pray the other prayers silently.

Shiloh has been a center of Jewish Prayer for thousands of years.  During Biblical times, it became the spiritual center for the Jewish People after the return to the Holy Land. The Mishkan, Tabernacle rested in Shiloh for almost four hundred years. This was before King David  declared Jerusalem the Capital city.

It was in Shiloh that Hannah prayed for a son and then brought him to serve the people in the Tabernacle, train by Eli The High Priest.

Rosh Chodesh Shevat, Wet, Cold and Sunny, Onward to Adar

The cold wind kept most of the regulars home on Rosh Chodesh Shevat, but two of us braved the raw wind and enjoyed the crisp sunny morning at Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh. The sky was blue and clear, but it was very obvious that it had rained hard overnight.

Baruch Hashem, it has been a relatively wet winter, just as it should be, and the farmers say that the cold is also very important for some of the fruit. So far, we haven't had any snow in Shiloh and neighboring Eli, but there have been reports of light snow in Beit El and Gush Etzion.

It was clear to me that Gd had the sun shine this morning so that we could go to the Holy location of the Biblical Tabernacle, Mishkan, in Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh. Gd willing our prayers caught the express straight to Gd.

For well over a decade, I've been inviting women to join me on Rosh Chodesh to pray together in the very same location where the Biblical Chana prayed.

Next Week Rosh Chodesh Shevat!

It's hard to believe, but our winter is almost over here in Israel. Even though there has been a custom for decades to use the Jewish Month of Shevat, and more popular the middle of Shevat, TU B'Shevat as a national tree planting day, according to experts, it's a couple of months late. Most of the heavy rains and cold are usually before TU B'Shevat. That means that if you plant trees on TU B'Shevat, you must make sure to water them well for the first few months and into the dry Israeli summer.

Thank Gd, so far at least, we've had a nice rainy winter here in the HolyLand, and soon we should be seeing lots of beautiful wild flowers decorating empty lots and peeking through rocky areas. Gd willing, since this year has two months of Adar, so that our shorter lunar calendar will be adjusted and the Jewish Holidays will fall in the correct seasons, there should be another three months of rain.

 

It's such a blessing to live in Israel, the Land of Israel and especially in Shiloh. For well over a decades I've been going to nearby, just a mile or kilometer and a half, walk to Shiloh Hakeduma, Tel Shiloh on Rosh Chodesh, the beginning of the Jewish Month, to pray with other women.

Honestly, I do not like praying at graves, no matter what holy person may be buried there. I feel much more attached to Ancient Shiloh, where during Biblical Times Jewish people came to pray. The ancient Tabernacle Mishkan, stood/rested there for close to four hundred 400 years. It predated Jerusalem and the Holy Temple.

Could It Be Real?

Last night I took a picture of the Shiloh Tabernacle Synagogue from the vantage of my neighborhood. It was all lit up and gorgeous. Suddenly I had idea. As soon as I got home I used the double exposure tool on Snapseed. Yes, I pasted/superimposed the synagogue over the location where it's believed that the Mishkan, Tabernacle had stood in Shiloh from the time of Joshua until Eli, the High Priest.

It's far from perfect, but...

Tonight, after Shabbat, I went down to a neighbor's house to hear of her trip to China and teaching Chinese Hebrew and some Tanach, Bible. When I stepped out, I saw the amazing Mishkan, Tabernacle synagogue all lit up.

Recently, there has been major renovations done to the synagogue, which includes the lighting. I think it's gorgeous.

Now, if you're not yet aware, the synagogue was designed to follow the description in the Bible of the Mishkan, which was a traveling/portable tabernacle, prayer hall, used by the Jewish People during the forty years wandering the wilderness from Egypt to the Holy Land, and then reassembled on a permanent platform in Shiloh, where for 369 years it was the forerunner of the Holy Temple later built in Jerusalem. And the Biblical location of Shiloh is today's Shiloh, where I live. So, when the families that first moved to Shiloh in the late 1970's wanted to build a large community synagogue, it was obvious that it had to resemble the Biblical Mishkan, Tabernacle.
