Getting Complicated

Today was obviously one of those "I must blog about it" days.  The problem is/was that although I knew what I wanted to write, I just couldn't decide which blog to blog on, this or Shiloh Musings.

Having multiple blogs is like being schizophrenic at times.  Sometimes the personalities remain very separate and distinct and other times, like today...

... my mind sort of muddles.  I blogged my day on Shiloh Musings, so please read it there.  Thanks

Just Past The Third "Birthday!"

It's hard to believe this, but my "new cell phone" has just past its third birthday, a milestone for Israeli cellphone deals.

This has never happened to me before.  My phones have always died before the 36 month initial purchase contract was up.  And now with the new laws we had to make a new contract so I'd be covered for basic things like caller identification, voicemail etc.

I was with my daughter (#1) when I bought it and it's more expensive and has more "abilities" than I would have gotten on my own.  Honestly, I've used, taken advantage, of almost none of them.  What I do like is the easy to find color and its weightlessness.

I negotiated a cheaper deal, a smaller package, and now I don't have to pay the 1/36 purchase price each month either.  So, that should save me a bit more money, G-d willing.

Now, on with my day...

Expensive Glasses, Hearing Aids, I Wonder... A Scam? More in the Saga...

I've been thinking about writing this for a while.  Yes, it's more in the saga of my taking care of my very elderly father.

Before his shower, he walks around without his glasses and hearing aids.  I don't see any difference in function between that time of the day  and when he has the glasses on and the hearing aids in.  This can be seen especially when he's unaware, like when his glasses were broken and didn't have lenses.  He didn't say that his vision was affected.  When my lens was just slightly out of kilter, I panicked, because I couldn't read.  My father didn't notice that his lenses weren't in.

And when his hearing aid fell out and got caught in his scarf, he didn't notice that either.  The only thing he does notice is when the battery is dead.  And I think that the reason is that the deadened hearing aid blocks his hearing.

So I wonder if all these expensive things are really necessary.  Outdoors he'd probably see better if he didn't have those special indoor/outdoor lenses which get so dark.

Am I just being my usual contrary, or have other people noticed similar phenomena?

The Real Thing!

I admit that this sky doesn't look real, but it's totally natural, no touch-ups, nothing.  I just aimed my camera and shot!

First in A Long While

My blogging started a number of years ago to promote my "musings," essays I had begun writing and sending off to people by email.

After a while the blogging became the thing and as you know, more than just Shiloh Musings.  Yes, I me-ander here.

A little while ago, ok, tonight I wrote something about the New Israel Fund and decided to send it out.

Some people say that I blog in so many different genres that it just dilutes my readership.  Who knows?  And is it important?

Simply Put, I'm Next

Yes, I am.  Now that simply Jews has posted a simply perfect Havel Havelim, I'm next for next week.  Send in your posts post haste, or whatever, just don't be late.

Sooner Than I Had Realized

Oops!  I hadn't realized that this was the week already.  Whenever my father visits certain doctors they quiz him about the date.  Duhh, I'd fail the test, too.  We don't really need to know the actual date in our very simplified existence.  Does that make me senile, demented or just dealing with the seven days of the week and the Jewish lunar calendar?

I know that Sundays are for Havel Havelim, and I just checked and simply put, it's not yet up on Simply Jews.

Why should I be surprised that only when I rescued a submission from my "spam box" did I realize that this is the week to put together, the Havel Havelim I had promised?  Next Sunday I'm the one to post an edition.  So, please start sending in your posts for Havel Havelim ASAP-As soon as they're posted.  Please don't wait until the last minute, thanks!

If I Fell So Well, Why Does Everything Hurt?

I had planned on writing a post titled "Fell Well," to brag about how artfully I fell Thursday night.  "Nu, you fell?"  You wonder...

Well, here's the story...

My husband and I went to the dinner celebrating fifteen years of Israel's Media Watch and ten years of its giving prizes to worthy journalists.  Bli neder (no oath) I'll blog about it on Shiloh Musings.  We took the last bus home, arriving in Shiloh about 12:30am, yes after midnight.  I got off the bus and then went to cross the street, and... I found myself flat down on the road.

I had tripped over a heavy wire.

Honestly, I did fall very well.  Apparently, I let go of my pocketbook and my two hands went down first, sort of stressing my wrists.  I kept my head up, so no damage at all to my face.  Luckily I was wearing tights, so my knees were covered.  I managed to get up and start walking the almost kilometer, half a mile to my house.  After a bit, we got a ride, which was good.  Yes, Baruch Hashem, praise G-d, I felt fine.  But...

Yesterday and today the muscle strains are showing, aching, making themselves known.  My hands did the right thing breaking my fall, but the stress was like doing a hundred push-ups, and I've never ever been able to do push ups.  My upper body really is complaining.  Thank G-d, I'm only suffering from overused muscles, and I know that within a few days, I'll be fine.

I can't complain; I'm not.  I'm just reporting.

Here's My "Busy Bee"

I saw that Robin posted a busy bee, which reminded me that I, too, have a bee to show you.

This bee even has a butterfly as company.  Yes, one of the advantages of walking around with a camera strapped to my waist is that I don't waste such opportunities to shoot.

Another Israeli Snow-Alert Scam

It's funny that this morning when I checked the weather on Arutz 7, I was certain that there was an extreme inaccuracy, because the sun icon was shining all day.
Thu - Shevat 20, 5770, 02.04.10
15.7C°ClearMorningClear
16.3C°ClearAfternoonClear
11.3C°ClearEveningClear
8.6C°ClearNightClear
When I had gone to bed last night, I kept hearing about storms and snow predictions on the news for today.  The Thursday garbage truck pick-up was even Wednesday afternoon.

Then I looked out the window:

It kept getting brighter and brighter.  I'm no prophet, but I think we've been had.

There are many workers, municipal, media etc, who get paid special overtime for snow alerts, and they're the ones who had been pressuring that there would be snow.  So, although, ordinary people like myself don't take these alerts seriously, those who profit deem themselves prophets and they insisted that it would snow.

All those who took them seriously and thought that they'd have a snow day off today and didn't set their alarms are up a creek.  And you can't ice skate on that sort of creek.

My Occasional Walking Partner

No, I'm not the one holding the leash.

I sometimes walk with a neighbor who has this white dog.  When the dog is with us, the dog decides on the pace, which is rather irregular, considering that dogs don't "walk" to "walk."  When I'm totally on my own, I walk as quickly as I can and sometimes do the double circuit without stopping or slowing down.

When I'm just with a friend, we talk and try to adjust our very different paces to match.  But the dog has a very different agenda.

Yesterday I didn't get out at all.  It was raining on and off the earlier part of the day, and by the time my father was up, showered, dressed and had eaten, I was afraid to take him out.  And then my husband got home too late for walking and it was already pouring rain.  If I had the space, I'd get a treadmill or some other exercise machine.  But I wonder if I'd use it, because for me exercise has to be social or at least outdoors.  I can never get through my exercise dvd's alone.

Could It Be Because of Anti-Israel Feelings?

On occasion I post a Ruby Tuesday picture post.  It always brings quite a few comments.  Not this time.  I'm just wondering if people didn't like the topic.  It was a picture I took when packing "A Package From Home" for Israeli combat soldiers.

Or is it just an unattractive photo?

Just wondering...

Jerusalem's Place to Be...

The Lion's Den...
opening soon

This Time, Six Hours!

No, this isn't about labor in childbirth or waiting in some mother of bureaucracy line or running a marathon or anything like that.

On Monday, I was in Jerusalem and after the pool I went downtown to the store where I had gotten the watchband for my Speedo watch which had stayed connected barely three hours.  The guy in the store was very polite, worked hard, connected the band to the watch, and...  yes, you guessed from the title.

Six hours later, while I was quietly sitting at the dining room table, my wrist innocently resting on the table, suddenly, yeseree bob... the watch was off of me and on the table.

So, the Speedo watchband saga is far from over.

Doesn't the picture speak for itself?

A Donkey's Life

They seem to be having fun.  No worries, fresh salad.

I'm off to an evening in memory of a neighbor who passed away a few months ago.  I didn't feel like dressing up, just changed my earrings and put on lipstick.

Last Tuesday for Ruby Tuesday

It's funny what your eye will spy when you're searching for red to photograph for Ruby Tuesday.

Actually, I was searching my picture CD's for a totally different picture when I noticed this one.  I took it last week when I had joined the packing at A Package from Home, a volunteer group which sends personal supplies to Israeli combat soldiers.  This is the line of gifts for women soldiers.  There are hand-knit scarves here.

On Tuesdays, just post any photo you like (it must be one of your own) that contains the color RED and then link to this blog.

The Poise of A Cat

This cat sure likes the camera.  And no, I have no idea whose cat it is or if it's owned by anyone.  It just waits around for me to come and take its picture.

I get the feeling that it's posing for me.  My camera is generally strapped to my waist when I leave the house, except for Shabbat of course.  So, I'm an easy mark for that cat.

Here's Where I'm Off To Today

That's the Neve Yaakov swimming pool.  The 7:30-10am time slot is women only on Mondays and Wednesdays and until 9:30 on Friday.  There are other hours, but not such a long time slot.  If I'm not mistaken men have hours on alternate days and different hours.  The rest is mixed or rented out to schools and other groups.

In Israel, swimming lessons are required for a few weeks in the 4th or 5th grade, so when I leave at 10, it's quite common to see kids pile in.  On the day I took the picture, the pool was empty after we swan.

It's a nice pool, and there are also a sauna and steam-room to enjoy, and G-d willing, I do plan on enjoying them.
