Memories: Do You Know What This Is?

Nu, do you know what it is? And if so how did you use it? Any stories?

This was an old Israeli all purpose soap. I know that I used to buy it, or at least there was always some in the house, but I just don't have any memories of using it. It never quite felt or smelled like soap. American soap was real soap for me, and this stuff always made me think of the old scrubbing boards.

What do you think/remember?

I hated the smell of Syntabon (synthetic soap)..but i used it for all my hand washing when I was unsure how to wash an item of clothing in the machine. This goes back 40+ years. HOWEVER, there was a similar soap in the US. My mom called it 'brown soap' and we used it to wash our bodies in the shower whenever we caught poison ivy on our summer vacations in the Catskills. The soap stunk, but it relieved the itching of the rash. Wow, what a journey down memory lane.

Yeah I remember using it for washing stuff by hand

Totally amazing to think how quickly things have changed here. Way back when, the soaps were so disgusting and limited selection, and now we have everything, world class.

And it was considered "classy" and not insulting to give someone an imported bar of soap as a little gift!

Yep, and in those days toilet paper, napkins, paper towels, tampons, disposable diapers and more were also treasured gifts.
