One of my regular Shiloh Musings readers has just reported that he's trying out "Rimon," a new "restrictive service," "porn blocker," or whatever they're called. Not only can't he see the gorgeous nature pictures I posted, but even my banner is blocked.
I was amazed that he was able to comment to the blog.
The kids looking for trouble will find ways of getting around the "services" and deblock the computers. I have friends who even lost their email capabilities after trying one of those "chastity belts."
Oh, boy, I bet my rankings on that "clean blog" ratings is going to plunge after this post. I discovered it when blog hopping the other night.

I tried out some parental controls a few years ago. Every site, however, was blocked, unless I unblocked it. My son couldn't do his homework. We got rid of it fast. For a year or two, I used to stare over his shoulder to see what he was doing. Now, he closes up what he's doing. But he's a good kid, so I let him be. At a certain point, especially teens, you got to trust that you did a good job when they were five. I feel accomplished if I get him to help with the groceries or Shabbat cooking.
I can't imagine putting controls on for myself. I have a pretty good sense of what not to click on.
Truth is that as long as the strange viruses don't show up on the computer, your kids are probably behaving. If they do show up you have your proof, and you can ask curious kiddies to pay for repairs and have the talk.
